Ronald McDonald House
Join Us!

The Ronald McDonald House provides housing for families of critically ill children at Dell Children's Medical Center, regardless of their ability to pay. With so much time spent at the hospital, these families need a home-cooked meal when they return to the House. The Alliance provides this lunch every Tuesday. This is one of the most satisfying volunteers opportunities we offer, yet one of the easiest to help with. Meals can be prepared at your house and simply delivered.

Please contact Jennifer Carsner or Julie Shlitt if you can help out one Tuesday (or more)!
Be Wise Immunize
Join Us!

The goal of this committee is to improve immunization rates in Central Texas. Members achieve this goal by assisting at immunization clinics, serving on regional committees and various other projects during the year. Spanish speakers are encouraged to sign up for this committee.

The TCMA community outreach program, Be-Wise Immunize, will be assisting the UT Children's Wellness Center again this summer with their "Back to School Immunization Day" on Saturday, August 14th.  The immunizations are free, and all that is required is the child's shot record.  The children served by the clinic are predominately Hispanic, low-income, and medically underserved.  TCMA will assist the shot clinic by providing publicity for the immunizations, and by providing volunteers from the Be-Wise committee for the day to help direct people and assist with their paperwork.  TCMA will also be assisting the clinic by providing water bottles for the patients, lunch for the staff, and goodie bags for the kids getting immunizations!  Last summer the clinic immunized 1,092 people and gave 2,881 vaccine doses!  With immunization requirements changing once again this year, the TCMA looks forward to another record year!   Volunteers are needed to work the 9am-12pm shift.

Please Contact Amy Roberts for more information or to volunteer for this hands-on opportunity.

JB and Sandy Bikes for Kids
Join Us!

On Friday, December 18, 2009 at Mellow Johnny's Bike Shop, volunteers from TCMA passed out almost 800 bicycle helmets to recipients of Bikes for Kids.

JB & Sandy are local morning DJ's for MIX 94.7 FM radio. They work tirelessly raising money to provide bicycles to area children who might otherwise never have a new bike. Last year the Alliance teamed up with these characters and provided over 850 children receiving a bicycle with a helmet. We are thrilled to be able to honor our "Hard Hats for Little Heads" project with this gigantic gift! Once again Laurel Hooper is coordinating this effort and she would love to have your support! Volunteers are needed the morning of the giveaway, Friday, December 18th to hand out helmets. We'd love to have you join us.  Please contact Laurel to sign up.
Volunteer Healthcare Clinic
Join Us!

In 1966, a dedicated group quietly began finding healthcare for people who had no access to medical services. Many of Austin's working poor such as manual laborers must choose between food for their families and medical care. The Volunteer Healthcare Clinic continues to provide high quality helathcare for this uninsured population. TCMA volunteers help out at this local clinic as nurses, physicians, office staff and occasional maintenance projects.

The next meeting of this committee is on Wednesday, March 3rd at 9:30am. We will discuss our "Spring Clean Up" of the clinic.

Please contact Patty Loose or Amy White if you are interested in helping with this committee.

Holiday Families
TCMA adopted 5 VHC families this year at the holidays and provided clothes, toys, and food gift cards.  Members met the families on December 12th to wrap the gifts and enjoy festive holiday treats.  The families were very grateful for help in making the Season bright.
